License-free cars, or quadricycles, are gaining popularity as a safer alternative to scooters. There are two types of quadricycles: light and heavy, each with specific weight, power, and dimension regulations.
In France, light quadricycles can be driven from age 14 with an AM license (around 350€ in a driving school), while heavy quadricycles require a true B1 driving license. As of October 2022, mandatory roadworthiness tests are required for electric cars without a license.
Among the top models are the Citroën AMI, launched in 2020 with a range of 75 km and a very minimalist interior and priced at €8,990, and the Jiayuan City Fun and its cargo/van/fresh/foodtruck versions, super equipped with a reversing camera, power steering, A/C ventilation system , and a digital display connected to your smartphone via Bluetooth, with a range of approximately 100-200 km depending on the battery option, and priced between €8,990 and €11,990. The City Fun and the professional versions are exclusively distributed in France by ASPP e-Tech.
